Goodbye Morfar

I just got the sad news that my Morfar (my mom's dad) died earlier today. He was 83 years old. He loved my kids and was always so good to them! He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed it when people went to visit him. In the last couple years he has lived in a care home, but still loved making his own breakfast of bacon and eggs and the good coffee!! The last time we saw him was Christmas Day when he joined us at my parents' place for dinner. We will miss him so much.

One Sheet Wonders

When I was getting ready for my last club night, I played around with different combinations of stamps and colours before I finally settled on a monochromatic scheme. The card we actually did is a few posts down, (in greens - click here to see) but here are some of the "out-takes!"

More new products

Here's a card I made a few days ago when I was trying out all my new goodies. This uses the new SU! bead duo, as well as the new glue SU! is selling this year. I still need to play around with them a bit, and see how to use them most effectively, but it is definitely a cool look... I had thought of putting something in the middle of the flower as well, but the beads kind of filled in there and I don't think I will now. Before I put the beads on I punched a hole in the centre of the flower so the blue would show through.

Rub-ons

A few days ago I got my order of new goodies from Stampin' Up! In the box were new stamps, new paper, some accessories like the new striped grosgrain, etc... and I also had ordered some rub-ons. I love them! They are so easy to use and add so much to a project.

As I was taking a picture of this card, Steve walked in and said, "Oh, that looks great!" Well, he wasn't supposed to see it, but he did, so now he knows what his Valentine's card looks like! This is a photo from our wedding... taken by Imagemakers Photography. The card is 6X6 so I can just slip it into one of my 6X6 albums.

On the last day of the year....

On Dec. 31/07 Steve and I took off for a bit and left the kiddos with my parents. We had been able to get away for 2 nights the week before for our anniversary (see the pic on the side), but it was so nice to have little getaways during the rest of the 2 weeks in Victoria as well.

On the last day of the year we walked partway around Elk and Beaver Lakes. Here are a few shots that I love.....

On Dec. 30, Todd burnt his hand on my dad's woodstove... I took this picture on the 31st. We are so thankful that it wasn't worse... the kids never go near the stove, but on this day Todd was in his own little world, daydreaming like his mother likes to do, and he happened by the stove and his little hand paid the price. But he is doing great now, and told me the other day that he "took the paper off" his owie hand... meaning that the dead skin from over the blister that was falling off.

Here's what he did when I asked him to show me his hand for a picture...

and his little hand beside Uncle Angus' big hand - look at those blisters.

A Little Music

Here are some fun pics from our Christmas holidays... something that we tried for the first time was Guitar Hero... ever played it? So much fun!!!

We played at my friends Tricia and Justin's house... they are pros!!!

Steve rockin' it up
I felt like a rockstar!! hahaha!

Then on New Year's Eve we went back to their house for a party and they had 2 guitars going! Even more fun!

One of the classes I have advertised is called ON BOARD BASICS... I will still offer this class later in the Spring, but I am postponing it from Jan. 24 to..... TBA! If you are interested in this class, please let me know and I will make sure you get the info on it when I know the new date. Thanks so much!!

Scotty and Lofty

Scott asked me to draw a picture of Lofty from Bob the Builder... I was making dinner, so I said, "Why don't you give it a try and we can colour together later." So.... he did, and I think it is way better than I could have done!!

Scrapbook Club

Last night was my scrapbooking club. Here are the pages we made... we used Ginger Blossoms designer paper and two new sets from the Spring/Summer Collections: Celebrate Everything and Embrace Life.

One of these days I will have to show you the last few layouts with pictures!!!

Here's the scrapmap
and again in black and white, in case you ever want to try it in a different colour scheme... then the colour won't distract you!
And the finished pages (without pics... but I think I have some in mind that will work well!)

Another Elise...

Over Christmas I was able to connect with a couple high school friends. Sue was out from Ontario, and Elise lives on the Island... It is so great to catch up with old friends, eh? Throughout the year, the 3 of us often stay in touch with 3-way emails, but in person with one of Elise's vanilla lattes is WAY better!!!

So, I had to get a pic of Elise with Elise!!

Baby card

Here's a card I received from my sister Louise as a thank you for the gift I gave her baby Cole.

Question... what's with these little markers? They are supposed to be worry free, mess free, etc... glad I went with instinct and bought E a smock as well!!! She had so much fun colouring along with the boys... I don't mind a little mess, as long as they are getting along!!

Look at these frowns!

Every single day I think Todd looks more and more like my dad... my dad has a frown that beats all, so I just had to see what Todd's would look like....

....same goofy guys, same green chair, just 13 months later... (see the pic on the side from Nov. 2006)

2008 Calendar

For Christmas, I gave my parents a 12X12 calendar that I completed with pics from the past year. Here is the January page.... All of them were done using scrappin' kits, and I am truly amazed at how fast I finished this calendar... don't tell my parents - but 2 days before we left for the island they weren't going to be getting a calendar, then I discovered that I had more than 12 different scrappin' kits to pull from and I thought, "I can do this in a day and a half!!!" And I always have tons of pics, so that wasn't a problem :) I like how it turned out, and surprisingly enough, there is no stamping on the entire calendar!! The Month titles were done on my computer with the Write me a memory journaling cd.

This is the At Home Simply Scrappin' kit (retired... but there is one similar called Home Again that is available)

Here are the pics that are on this calendar page. Both are from July 2007......

While we were visiting my aunt and uncle last summer Todd befriended a raccoon that came by for a little meal, and Todd even read it a little story (through the glass door, of course!!)

This one was taken just before Elise's first b-day - she was opening her gift from Auntie Louise... A dolly that she tasted as soon as she opened it :)

Happy Birthday Jesus!

What does Christmas mean to you? Gifts, turkey, lights, Santa, or snow?? It was so fun to listen to my boys talking the other day as they discussed Christmas. Of course they were excited about presents... their wishlist had been a mile long, thanks to the Sears wishbook!! But then they switched gears and talked about what we were going to do as a family over Christmas, the main thing they kept saying was that it was a birthday party for Jesus.... that's right!

The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means, "God with us." (Matthew 1:23)

Merry Christmas everyone, and remember the reason we celebrate is because God gave us the best gift.... baby Jesus in the manger 2000 years ago. What a great gift.

(Christmas card from Hilda D. Thanks!!!!)

Scrapbook Club pages

Here is the layout we did for December with my scrapbooking clubs... I used the song Once Upon a December as my inspiration! See if you can find some of the aspects of the song in the layout..... hint - there are no dancing bears or horses on this page, you have to think more abstract than that!!!

If you want to watch the music video by Deana Carter, Click on the song title below, and then hit "click here to watch video"

Once Upon a December

Dancing bears,
Painted wings
Things I almost remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory...

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember,
Things my heart used to know,
Once upon a December

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory...

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember,
Things my heart used to know,
Things it yearns to remember...

And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

Fireplaces

What's better than having your fireplace on? How about 2 fireplaces!!!! We have a channel that plays hour after hour of a real wood burning fireplace... complete with the crackles and stoking of the fire. Our little gas fireplace looks kind of sad next below it... but at least the gas one gives the real heat. We just have to figure out how to get that wood burning smell... hmm... I guess I could burn some dinner!

On a funny note... we tried this downstairs in the theatre, and it was a little scary because it looked like the whole wall was on fire... we changed the channel pretty quickly!

First one.....

Here is my first Christmas card of the season. I got it on Wednesday night from Patti. What a cute little snowman... I am just not sure I agree with him that it should snow!!! Thanks Patti!
