More Birthday Pages...

Here is another layout I did last night. I made the pagemap after I did the page. I like putting a lot of photos on a page, as I stated in the last scrapbooking post, and this page layout allows for 11 photos... enough pictures to nicely tell almost any story. I only matted one photo, and I think that is enough - every photo does not have to get the same treatment. This page doesn't really have a title, but you could easily add one in somewhere. I guess "E" is the title, and then on the second page, I've put a chipboard number 4, and that helps tell the story that it is Elise's 4th birthday.

The "e"s all over the place are some pre-made stickers that I found along the way and I had in my sticker drawer. I like the layers on them. Sometimes stickers can add a special touch, and I have quite a collection... my husband might call it a fetish. I have a whole drawer full :)

Here's a little tip... since I only scrapbook on one side of my paper (some people scrapbook on both sides to save paper, but I don't always scrapbook in order that the photos were taken, so I sometimes have to rearrange pages in a scrapbook) the backs of my pages are blank... unless... I do this - extra journaling that I remember from the day, or extra photos (that don't fit on the layout, and won't make sense alone somewhere in another book) or in this case, a Strawberry Shortcake birthday card that Grandma gave to Elise. Since it so perfectly fit the theme, I wanted it to stay with the page. I didn't have room for it on the front of the layout, so I attached it to the back. Down the road, it will be discovered and read again, and it is tucked in safely behind the page until that time!

I don't usually do my journaling all by individually stamped letters, but I was watching a movie, (Sabrina) and I was all done the rest of the layout, with the journaling being the last thing... there were still 20 minutes left in the movie - enough time to fiddle around with letters, but not enough time to start another project. So, instead of using computer font, or handwriting, this layout got very crooked stamped write-up! (but since it's for a 4-year old's page, I kind of like the messy look!)

Photo idea - take a close up of something on the cake and have it beside the full photo. I don't have a "girly girl" but she likes Strawberry Shortcake... I think it's the hat and the green striped tights. They don't look "princessy" - and E is really not into princesses right now!

The different coloured stripes on the bottom half of the page below are just strips of cardstock. A good way to use up scraps, and still get the feel of designer paper, but this way you can make it custom colours to match your photos. I mimicked the stripes on the pinata. I included the photos of Elise with the pinata even though they were taken a few days before the party - she played with that thing like it was a pet... I wonder what was going through her head when she then had to smash it to bits. Kind of like when we had pet sheep growing up, and the next thing we knew they were in the freezer! haha! Maybe not quite the same thing!

MDS to the rescue!!

Ok, I think I found a way to do this. I was trying to get 2 photos to post side by side, with no luck.... so, I did it a different way. I am feeling so clever because it only too about 3 seconds to do this. I made a space for 2 photos on a single digital page in MDS, then added my completed layouts as photos on that page. I saved it to a file and cropped it in Picasa, and voila - it is now on my blog.

Thanks to the ladies that suggested editing 2 photos together - I am sure this isn't how you meant me to do it, but photoshop is too fancy for me! You probably think I did it the hard way, but it worked!

Just click on the photo to see the double layout enlarged.

Digi pages by me

And here are the pages that I came up with last night. (check out Scott's pages in my last post!!) I also did 2 double layouts in traditional scrapbooking, but I will post those tomorrow after I take some pics in the daylight. I forgot to take pics of them today.

I have been trying to get my pictures to post side by side, but with no luck. A couple friends suggested I just merge the 2 photos into 1 in an editing program, so I will mess around with that on another day. If you know how to get 2 individual photos to post side by side in blogger, I would love to know your secret!!!

Digital Pages

My son Scott saw me working on some projects in "My Digital Studio," and he asked if he could try. Hey, why not! Even better than him taking paper, right? (although, I really don't mind my kids using my papercrafting supplies as long as they ask first, which they are very good about doing.)

Here are the 2 pages that he made. Even though I have already scrapbooked his 7th birthday party, I think I will go ahead and get these printed for him :) I love how he added a little dog, and the layout and colours he chose. Not bad for his first digi page, eh?!

Another digi page

I love how MDS comes with so many stamp images and options for creating great works of art. Then, if you want to add onto your program, the digital downloads are so affordable, and of course, there's no shipping on digi add-on items because they are downloads right to your computer. This background paper is a download that I purchased last week, and comes in a package called "Shades of Spring."

The stamped images and punch I used on this page are all included in the original MDS software.

My Beautiful Nephews

My sister has 4 boys. Bless her! They are all becoming handsome little men... just look at these photos from the last couple years. One thing Louise is amazing at is updating the family with photos of her boys. I love that. I am not quite as on top of things as she is.... sorry about that Lou! My mom always has to ask for updates on my kids for her 8X10 Grandkid wall. I need to get on that... the photos she has in there now are from Elise was still two. Now, she's FOUR!

I just put this page together of Ethan, Jackson, Liam and Cole. As you can see, there is a spot for Liam on the second page... any chance you have another one of those, Louise? I can't find it.

It is very much fun to scrapbook these boys because they are all so photogenic. Just look at her oldest, Ethan - he loves having his picture taken!

These will be put in my album called "People we Love."

A Little Digital to share...

Just wanted to share a couple digital pages that I am working on right now. These are part of a book I'm making called "Our Outdoor Adventures 2010." I have so many photos from our outdoor treks, so I wanted to get them all in the same place. I know I wouldn't get to use them all in my regular Family Yearbook.

2 New Pages

Last night, I stayed up far too late working on a couple scrapbook pages. It's not that they were so hard that they took a long time, it's just that I started them around 11pm :) While I scrapped, I watched "Sister Act." Love that movie. Might have to do a couple more pages tonight so I can watch "Sister Act 2" - both of them are great, and the music in there is what I would love to hear in church all the time!

The first pages I did were for Todd's book. I've had these black and white pictures kicking around (ok, they were filed, but they are already a few years old!) for almost 3 years. They were taken back in July 2007 when Todd was only 3 years old. After I finished these pages, I pulled up some videos of him at that age and my heart just melted - he has always been such a tenderheart!

I used the Accents and Elements: Flower Fusion, as well as the Pretties Kit on this page.

Then I came across this scrappin' kit in my stash, and thought it would be great to use on Elise's swimming lesson pictures from last Summer. The kit is called "Sunny Day." See full kit HERE.

The little birdie's eye is made with a Circle Ice Rhinestone.

Family Pages

Here is a layout I finished this morning. It is very basic, but I like how it incorporates so many photos. These are the photos that we had taken by Judi Petker back in September. I will put these pages in my "All About Us" book.

Scrappin' Class

Last night, I had my final scrapbook class in a series of classes I started in the Fall. These are the pages we did last night. We used the tag punches, and the new 2-step bird punch. Also, my new favourite paper... Sweet Pea designer series paper. Love it!

A few pages to share....

I have had a series of scrapbook classes this fall, and I know I haven't shown all the pages from those classes.

Fall Glory... Here are the October pages we did. The title is made with my Simple Letters set of dies for my Big Shot. The film strip technique is created using the Spiral punch.

Here is one that I showed in a workshop in November, and also did it with my Beyond the Basics club. The ornaments are created with the Vintage Ornament stencils from the Decor Elements brochure.

And finally, the pages we made in my December scrapbooking class. Try flipping one page or the other in a layout to create a completely new look for your next layout. This was not the original plan that I had in mind when I came up with this page, but before I added my title I kept flipping the pages until I was happy with the way it looked. I plan to put a few photos from our family Christmas party last Saturday (see previous post) on these pages. Handy to have a few already made up and then I can just add photos!!

Scrapbooking Fun

I had my first "Scrapbooking Fun" class last week, and these are the pages we made. There is still room in these classes, so if you are a scrapbooker, looking for a night out once a month... why not come on out and scrap with us?! The cost is only $10, and you will go home with a double 12X12 layout! The dates for the next 3 Scrapbooking Fun classes are: Monday, Oct. 19, Monday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Dec. 10. Contact me if you would like more info.

The subtitle was created by punching out the letters, and every second letter was raised with a dimensional.

I really love my Big Shot machine and these butterflies were created with my Beautiful Butterflies die. I use this die quite a bit!

Here's the final product. Hard to see in the pic, but we used the Jumbo Outline ABC, and then with blender pens and watercolour pencils, coloured in the letters to match the layout. The full title of mine is "Ordinary Moments that make life Extraordinary."

Another Page to share...

3 posts in one day? This is a bit ridiculous!! But I wanted to share another layout I did recently. This one was with the pics from the last scrapathon I went to through Memory Weavers in April.

Family Scrapbook Page

You've seen all these pics before..... But, I just wanted to show you a page I did using the photos from our Good Friday photo shoot in Victoria. Since the photos were not just to get pics of our entire family, but also to celebrate my parents' 40th Anniversary, I thought these chipboard numbers worked perfectly. You will likely see me using chipboard more frequently now, since I have put my chipboard in a much more accessible spot in my new stamping room than it was in my old room (yes, I know I still have to post pics of my new space, those are coming!!!).

The rest of the picture!!

Remember the sneak peek I gave a couple days ago? Well, here are the finished projects... no pics yet, but I have several hundred on hand, so I am sure that it won't take long to find some to fill these spots!

I loved what Leanne did on her page tonight, she put a 5X7 on the left side of the black layout, close to the bottom, and then let the circles "float" above the image as well, rather than just along the left hand side. The title was "just me and my dad" and the pics were all of her hubby and son. Sure wish I remembered to take a pic of it before she left with her masterpiece. (If you post a pic of yours, let me know please, Leanne, then I can add a link!).

Scrapathon

Just over a month ago, I had a really fun day of scrapbooking with my friend Melanie. She has gone to a Scrapathon put on by one of our local scrapbook stores for a few years now, and this time around she invited me to join her. It was so fun, and there were door prizes, a registration gift bag and an amazing turkey dinner with all the fixin's!

I completed many, many layouts that day... some for my 8 1/2 X 8 1/2 travel album, some for my kids' albums, and even a couple for my 2008 yearbook. (8 1/2 X 11 size). I made this page, and then left myself a note in each photo block to remind myself which pictures to get printed from that day. I opted to print them in sepia because then they would all go with my layout colour choices.

Fall Pages

Just wanted to share a new layout I did for my Scrapbook Club. The pictures are from Sept. 2007, on the 19th anniversary of my husband's car accident. It truly is a Season of Thanks every September 23rd when we celebrate his health. I have just printed these pics from my computer, and I will order the "real" copies through Snapfish this week, and then put them on there for a better quality finish.

Scrappin' with Bold Brights

There is something about using Bold Brights and primary colours for Elementary school photos that just seems right. The playground is painted in these colours, classrooms are decorated in these colours, and kids just look good surrounded by these colours.

In this layout, the only stamping I did was with the "My ABCs" wheel, because I found some 3-d stickers that seemed to do all the work for me! I got Scott to write his name on the first day of school, and I will get him to do it on the last day as well... hopefully there will be some improvement!

I will just add some journaling and the page will be done... It's a bit on the busy side, but that is kind of how kindergarten children are... busy! So I think it fits in this layout, and it also lets me use a lot of pictures in one layout! I still have pics leftover from the first day of school that I didn't use, but those will go in our Family Album or a regular photo album.
